Vacations are meant to be fun-filled getaways when you can enjoy some interesting and exciting activities with the entire family. Whenever we think of a vacation, we think of sunny beaches, mouth-watering delicacies, adventure sports, and lots and lots of fun! But have you ever experienced the thrill of being on a treasure hunting vacation? If not, then you must give it a shot. Treasure hunting can add a touch of magic to your vacations, and make them appear something straight out of fantasy. Imagine looking for precious stones and finding them! There are certain places on our planet that are geologically rich, which means the earth's crust at these places is continuously changing. These places are rich in minerals and precious stones. In the United States, you'll find many such places and a few of them are open to the public. If you dig the earth at these places, you are likely to come across different types of precious and semi-precious minerals. What's more, at most of these locations, you can enjoy a host of other exciting activities with your family.

The best thing about treasure hunting vacations is the possibility of finding something interesting (you can strike it rich if you're lucky enough!). So, which are the best places to go treasure hunting? Well, it depends on what you're looking for. Here's a comprehensive list of the top treasure hunting vacation spots in the US.

The only place on earth that allows visitors to dig for diamonds, the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas is truly one of its kind. There are several things that make this place special for people who love the thrill of hunting for treasure. The fact that there are no restrictions on how much "treasure" a visitor is allowed to carry with him, is evident from the policy of the park itself that says, "finders keepers". This means that if you're lucky enough to find a sparkling piece of stone, you get to take it home! So, after spending hours digging parts of the 37.5 acre area, which is the result of years of erosion of the surface of a volcanic crater, if and when you finally strike gold (read diamonds!) you can get your treasure examined by a professional at the park, who will then register your find. In addition to white, brown and yellow diamonds, the Crater of Diamonds State Park boasts of at least 40 different minerals and crystalline rocks (including precious and semi-precious stones) that can be unearthed here. So, even if you don't manage to find any diamonds, there's nothing to get disheartened about. The chances are pretty much high that you shall find something that'll make you happy. Also, the necessary digging and mining equipment are available on rent at the park.

There are many other things in the park that may interest you, once your quest for diamonds is over. You can take a walk or go hiking in the serene woods that surround the park, have fun at the water park located within the premises, enjoy a picnic with your family, or go fishing on the Little Missouri River. Crater of Diamonds State Park is a nature lover's paradise, where one can witness the diverse flora and fauna of Arkansas. What's more, if you are an avid wildlife photographer, then here you can get some amazing shots of animals in their natural setting.

Every visitor is provided with a seat cushion and a screen box, and if you wish for some protection from the sun, you can borrow a shade umbrella for as little as $1 per day. Not only do you find emeralds here, but also aquamarines, topaz, garnets, sapphires, tourmaline, and amethysts.
